Trips
We took a Sunday afternoon walk to see the monkeys. Asaph was very excited to go look for monkeys (actually, he was hoping to see baboons), but a little apprehensive when they came so close. A pretty bird came right up to us for a picture. Asaph got tired of walking. Anna got hungry. We all got hot. It was a nice time.
We went for a short canoe trip up this little river that empties into the sea at Tanji. Got a ride with the tide on the way up and fought it on the way back down - it was especially strong closer to the mouth. Lots of birds and crabs and splashing fish around. The mangroves closed in on both sides in a couple of places making it a tight squeeze. A...
A couple of wanderings around the southern border of Gambia made by a couple of non-Gambians on a Wednesday morning. Saw lots of crabs, birds (especially gulls, terns, pelicans, osprey), and silvery, bullet like fish jumping in front of us.
Asaph and I had hoped to bike down to Kartong via the beach, but to our dismay when we reached the beach it was high tide and nearly impossible to bike in the sand. Rather than wallow in self pity, we made our way back up to the road and joined it for the trip down to the bottom of the country. Stopped for breakfast on the beach at Solifo Point and...
Kev and I set off around 8am on a bike trip that ended up being 90km (120+km for him as he came from Velingara!) mostly on bush roads.Wandered through a couple of walled Serahule villages, came to look down on a plain with a lone Fula village, crossed the river and had to force the ferryman to give the change he said that he didn't have, slogged against a strong wind and...
we wanted to visit some friends in basse and thought that we could combine eating breakfast in the bush, exploring some new bush roads, and checking on tree seeds along the way. was a nice morning together and time for a nap for both of us when we got home.
Took a nice bike trip with one preteen, three teenagers, and three of us 'old' folks. Lots of sand, wind, and fun.
We decided on the faster long boats that give you a close to the water experience. All went well and we didn't have use of our lifejackets other than a fashion statement.
The four of us (well, five if you count unborns) hopped on our bikes and headed out to see the field that Asaph and I have been working..
