Bruce Trail - Devil's Punchbowl Falls to Felker's Falls
by boothash on Aug 01, 2010
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Hiking | 6.0 miles
Medium length hike along the Niagra Escarpment/Bruce Trail from Devil's Punchbowl Falls to Felker's Falls and back. Both Falls are impressive even with little water when I checked them out would be spectacular during periods of higher water. The start/end of the trail from Devil's Punchbowl Falls parking lot is rather steep.  You can make your way up the canyon towards the bottom of the falls themselves if the water isn't too high. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil%27s_Punch_Bowl_%28Hamilton,_Ontario%29http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felker%27s_Falls_%28Hamilton,_Ontario%29http://outdoorjay.blogspot.com/

Leisure 9k photo hike in Caledon Hills, Forks of the Credit, Bruce Trail Haven’t been hiking in the Bruce Trail for almost 20 years.  Spent a day hiking the Caledon Hills, Forks of the Credit section to capture some photos of the fall foliage.  Today is the 2nd weekend after Thanksgiving.  This time of the year is usually a little bit too late for the fall photos and should have missed the most...

Hiking | 6.1 miles
Temperature a balmy -7 C, light snow under overcast skies.Today's walk followed some significant snowfall and I was unsure of how passable the trails would be without skiis or snowshoes.  With that in mind, I picked a trail set that would give me multiple opportunities to shorten the walk if the going turned out to be too strenuous or too slow to finish during shorter winter daylight hours.  This particular trail set...

Cyrprus Lake Hike
by MythicLionMan on Sep 11, 2010
Ontario, Canada
Hiking | 8.0 miles
I camped at Cyprus when I was a young boy. I remember asking my parents why we were going on a hike – not something we typically did while camping. They told me that there would be caves and that we'd have to watch out for rattlesnakes, which made it seem exotic.I was disappointed that we never saw a rattler — it turns out they're quite shy. I was also disappointed that...

Bruce Peninsula, Ontario, Canada
Hiking | 2.5 miles
We parked at the head of trails and began our hike early in the morning. We arrived at Indian Head Cove by about 9am and we were the only ones there! The view from the cliffs is amazing, but be sure to watch your step. ( I got hooked on a fishing hook and line right near the cliff)"The Georgian Bay Trail is the easiest and quickest path to the park's scenic cliffs...

Dundas, Ontario, Canada
Hiking | 2.0 miles
Other than the well known Niagara Falls, there are hundreds of spectacular waterfalls at the cliff edges of the Niagara Escarpment.  Today, the Easter long weekend, we made a day trip visiting Webster’s Falls, Tew’s Falls and Ball’s falls to take some pics. The City of Hamilton, less than 100 km west of Toronto, has a population of 505,000 and waterfalls of 125.  Webster’s Falls is one of the largest in the area...

Algonquin Park - Mizzy Lake Trail
by mcf on Feb 18, 2009
Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada
Hiking | 7.0 miles
It was almost perfect weather for a winter hike with temperatures just below freezing and very little wind.  I was able to do without gloves and head covering for much of the hike and actually worked up a bit of a sweat by the end of it.The Mizzy Lake trail is billed as a fairly long hike offering several opportunities to observe Algonquin's wildlife in different types of natural habitats ranging from...

Algonquin Park - Highlands Backpacking Trail, Loop 1
by mcf on Feb 19, 2009
Algonquin Park East, Ontario, Canada
Hiking | 10.6 miles
Had decent temperatures today ranging from -10 degrees C when I set out on in the morning up to -2 degrees in mid-day, and back down again to -12 by the time I finished.   It was a bit breezy, but wind chill was a factor only while up on a couple of ridges and along some shorelines.  This is actually considered a backpacking trail with two possible loops.  The shorter Loop...

Located in the heart of the Ottawa Valley just 1 hour west of Ottawa, Calabogie is the four seasons destination of choice.  Noted for outstanding natural beauty, the region offers residents and visitors the broadest array of year round outdoor recreational activities available in Eastern Ontario. That being said (or more accurately - plagiarized), a network of trails exists, which traverse the hilly areas of the region.  The Manitou Trail is the longest...

Rockwood Conservation Area Loop

Rockwood, Ontario, Canada
Hiking | 3.7 miles
Light snow, temperature -15 C under overcast skies.Rockwood Conservation Area is close to home and offers an easy scenic hiking loop along a combination of interior roads formal trails and informal trails.  Ruins of an old wool mill and waterfalls nearby make the park a popular destination year-round.  It's officially "closed" during the winter months, but for winter activity enthusiasts that only means that the park is unstaffed and the vehicle gates,...
