Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Ice skating | 8.9 miles
Ottawa, Canada's Capital, is home to the world's longest skating rink at 7.5 km. When the temperature drops in the winter a cold snap is exactly what’s needed to create the   the Rideau Canal Skateway. Typically, the Skateway opens in January and, in February, many activities take place on the frozen canal during Winterlude.I was in Ottawa for a business trip last week and I borrowed skates from the night manager at...

Richmond Green Ice Skate Trail
by philipc on Feb 19, 2011
Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada
Ice skating | 6.1 miles
Most Ontario Parks have suffered considerable snow loss due to the 9c record-breaking high temperature in the last 2 days.  Temperature was dropped back to normal below freezing last night but high winds blowing at 100 km/h littered most ski trails with branches and trees.  It wasn’t safe to drive up north to the ski trails this morning.  Instead of skiing, I just headed out to one of the ice skate trails...

Beautiful day to skate on the World's biggest outdoor rink. Ice was in excellent condition. Cathy and Wesley accompanied me the whole way. We also met up with Allan and his family and Uncle Burger. Watched little Lele skate. What a fun day.Of course we had the obligatory beaver tail. Tasty!

Ice Skating on L'Acadie River near Chambly
by ClaudeHB-Sentiers.QC.CA on Dec 26, 2008
Carignan, Quebec, Canada
Ice skating | 5.5 miles
Ice skating on L'Acadie river. The river is rarely bare to allow ic skating, but it happened in 2007 and 2008. Weather need to be 20c degrees below zero without snowing for several days in a row or it may rain and get frozen for several days. It's such a wonderful sensation to skate alone or with a friend on a river.
