Altun Ha is a popular Mayan Ruin in Belize with its famous jade head uncovered here. It's about an hour drive from Belize city. Unfortunately you can only see a depiction of the jade head.
This trip is really just a map of several of the areas we went diving and snorkling around Turneffe Island lodge. We had a total of 15 dives, 12 of them were near to the resort and 3 were near Half Moon Caye and the Blue Hole.We had gotten certified just prior to this trip, and so I don't have any real comparison except to the quarry we were certified at. It...
Today we finally went home after a wonderful week and a half in Belize. We spent the first week on Turneffe Island Lodge, and the next 4 days at Mopan River Resort. Both were great, and let us see different parts of the country. On the way back to the airport in Ladyville, we stopped at the Belize Zoo. It's pretty small, but the exhibits show some of the animals that you might...

Today, we left the resort and headed northeast for a while. After turning right at what seemed like a major intersection, the road quickly turned to gravel. We travelled through the countryside, which was quite pretty, passing an Amish church along the way.We arrived at Barton Creek Cave for the canoeing trip, got settled, and pushed away into the cave. Our guide, Amin, gave a short seminar on the significance of the...
The flight to Belize City was uneventful, although we did have an extra long layover in Miami. Because of this, we had a delicious lunch at the Cuban restaurant near our gate. After arriving at the Belize Airport, the Turneffe Island Lodge staff was there waiting and got us loaded onto their van for the trip to the Princess Hotel marina.Along the way, the other group headed to the island (mostly fishermen...
Turneffe Island Lodge to Mopan River Resort
Little Caye Bokel, Turneffe Island Atoll, Belize

Left Turneffe Island Lodge in the morning... Sad to go. I thought the place was marvelous. Took their boat ride back to the Princess Hotel marina and loitered in the hotel for a while until our ride to the Mopan River Resort showed up. From there, we headed to the airport to pick up a few others, and then drove out to Mopan in Benque. Our driver, Sergio, would also be our...
Today was an early day, with breakfast at 7am and a hop to the Guatemala border by 8:30. Our guide, Hugo, took us across uneventfully. Along the way, we stopped to pick up another guide, Luis, who turned out to be quite an interesting fellow. Once we got into the Tikal park, Luis pointed out some oropendola in a tree. We didn't see a jaguar, but took a picture of a sign...
Mopan River Resort - Cave Tubing Adventure
Nohoch Che'en, Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve, Cayo, Belize
Cave Tubing | 46 miles
Cave Tubing | 46 miles
After a delicious breakfast of cinnamon buns, we loaded on the Mopan River Resort van and went for a drive. Our driver, Amin, took us from Benque to Nohoch Che'en (Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve). The path traces this part of the route only (actually, the trip back home). Some in the group went ziplining, and after a nice lunch we all got a tube and went for a 45 minute walk to...
This year over Spring Break I went on my second mission trip to Punta Gorda, Belize. On our drive back up to Belize City we stopped at
St Herman’s Blue Hole National Park, one of the most beautiful places I'd ever been. We started off by going on Hummingbird Trail then changed into our swimsuits to jump into
St Herman’s Blue Hole. There was also a creek that lead us to some caves.
A challenging day hike through the rain forest. The summit is very scenic and rewarding.
There are some excellent articles on the Internet on this hike.
