Waimea Canyon Trail to Waipo'o Falls

Hiking | 2.7 miles
A fun day hike in the red dirt Waimea Canyon. The hiking poles we left in the condo would have been nice for the steeper parts, but we did fine without them. Close to the waterfall there is a steep incline that has pretty loose gravel and dirt. Good hiking shoes will be best. And definitely shoes you don't mind getting RED! The falls had a light flow, but we were there...

Waipo'o Falls, Kauai

Hiking | 4.5 miles
We picked this hike from "The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook" and improvised a bit on our return by taking the Black Pipe Trail to a four wheel drive road on our return.  As the book predicted, the water flow at the falls was rather low as it is summer, but the views were very nice.

Start at mile 13-14 at Pu’u Hinahina Lookout on Wailmea Canyon Rd.  The trail leads from the upper end of the lookout and soon dips steeply downhill.  At the Cliff Trail, take the Black Pipe Trail (to the right), then the Canyon trail splits off on the left.  Most of the trail intersections are signed but a map of the area is essential.  The canyon trail then follows the edge of the canyon with several great looks at...

Pretty muddy at the start, watch the elevation. Forget about end point, should be identical to go point

Canyon Trail to Waipo'o Falls
by gaojiekui on Oct 14, 2013
Waimea, Hawaii, United States
Hiking | 3.2 miles
We saw the falls full blast in 2005 and they were spectacular. Now it seems that the water has been redirected for irrigation. It was disappointing to not see the falls running, but there was still some wonderful views of the Waimea canyon. The trail was not too hard if you do any hiking with elevation.

Waimea Canyon Loop

It's actually a combination of 3 trails to make it a loop... 1) Canyon Trail 2) Kumuwela Trail 3) Halemanu-Koke'e Trail The canyon portion has spectacular vistas. The next two are quite jungly and allow the hiker a great cross section of flora at the various altitudes. It's a great hike with lots of variety for those who don't like to return on the same trail you hiked out on. Enjoy!
