This is an easy, popular hike as it is closest to 29 Palms and does not require an entrance fee to the national park to get to the trail head. It also has great views of 29 Palms, but no Joshua Trees (it does have yucca plants). The palm tree oasis is worth the walk too. Spring time is nicest as the flowers and blooming cactus add to the scenery.

We spent a few days in Joshua Tree with warm weather and a great campsite. Our big hike there was an off trail hiking/scrambling adventure that got quite a bit longer than planned. Our outbound wash was pretty easy for the most part with only a few rock piles to scramble over. But the return route was full of car and bus sized boulders that took a long time to get over....

Nick, Derek, and I took an overnight trip into Joshua Tree National Park. Despite miles of off-trail wandering and camping in a designated day-use area (oops) we managed to survive. Here's the pictures to prove it. A fabulous weekend for wildflowers, both the annuals that filled the low Mojave desert and the cactus, which all seem to be blooming early this year.

New to the GPS world, I didn't realize how much it would deplete my phone to navigate to the hike with the GPS. So my camera died about halfway through and my pictures are therefore limited. Really nice hike on a really nice day.
This is a great hike that is not crowded, well maintained and has been newly marked. Turns and trail junctions are clearly labeled with directions and mileage. From the parking lot at Juniper Flats to Fan Canyon View and back is about 11 miles round trip. To hike to the view and then continue on Stubbe Springs Loop would be about 13 miles. This is a really neat hike as there are a number of artifacts from the old mining days along the way. It is not real well known, so it is not very busy with hikers like Lost Horse Mine, but it is easy and neat enough other people are on the trail.
