Santa Ynez Waterfall

Hiking | 1.9 miles
Last minute trip, surprised by how close the Santa Ynez Canyon was off of PCH. Saw some deer very close by and lots of birds, squirrels, etc. Bonus: parking was close by the trailhead and FREE (on either side of Vereda de la Montura before the private gated community). Also, no dogs allowed, no restrooms.

Eagle rock via Santa Ynez Trail
by LAhikerchick on Mar 01, 2013
Los Angeles, California, United States
Hiking | 7.2 miles
A hike up to Eagle Rock in Topanga State Park via the Santa Ynez Trail that starts in Pacific Palisades. This route has the advantage of free parking and no park fees.  It is also takes you through a shady canyon bottom for about a mile before going uphill.  Trail Head:  Take PCH to Sunset Blvd.  Turn Left on Palisades Drive for about 2.5 miles and then turn left on Vereda de...

Temescal Peak via Palisades Highlands

Hiking | 7.7 miles
Hike to the highest point in Topanga State Park (2126 feet).  Rather than access the trail via Topanga State Park, I accessed from the Palisades Highlands using the Trailer Canyon Fire Road to connect to the Temescal Ridge Trail.  There is free parking in the neighborhood and the trail is less traveled than from other routes.

Up to Eagle Rock

Nice climb up from Topanga.  Eagle Rock had great views at sunset.  We watched the clouds forming and pushing through from the west.  We got out in the dark, just before a rainstorm.  Froggies was delicious -- especially with good friends.

Great day for a hike.  Not many out there on this day.  At 8:00 we were the third car in the lot.For getting there early the deer came out to say hello.  They let you take pictures of them until they are tired of it and then they walk away.  A little hazy but over all very nice.

Josh came out to visit LA and we decided to find the magical waterfall. We found a LOT of graffiti. And, not the good kind of graffiti (like art), the bad kind of graffiti (like my gang it going to kill your gang members).

How did I live here so long and never knew this existed? Topanga Canyon is a wonderful place, Far From the Madding Crowd. We picked an excrutiatingly hot day to discover it, but the payoff was worth it: no crowds, clear skies, lots of sunshine, and I don't want to tell you what the temp was at 9:00am...It's our Mother's Day hike for 2014! Even my kids could do it!

Can't believe this is the first time we've done this hike! From start to finish it's a comfortable climb with a minimal elevation gain. We meant to take Musch canyon back but missed the trail head. The sign for Musch is just next to the sign for Eagle Rock. Musch is a small loop that returns to the main trail and the parking lot of the Park. At the trailhead you are ...

St. Ynez Canyon Falls Trail

Hiking | 6.3 miles
This hike started out being planned the night before, just as many others have. This was supposed to be non hiking weekend, but when plans fall through, you change your schedule up. I wasn't able to make the hike this weekend, but a couple of the Xtreme Hiker divas had something planned. They decided to head up to the Topanga Canyon area and explore some trail up there. St. Ynes Falls looked...

Eagle Rock, Temescal Peak, & Musch Trail

Hiking | 9.0 miles
A quick, pleasant hike to Eagle Rock and Temescal Peak in Topanga State Park.  Eagle Rock is truly a sight to behold.  Ascending to Eagle Rock in the first three miles of the hike provides for the best all-around views.  Then continue east to Temescal before returning below Eagle Rock.  Musch Trail provides a nice change of scenery from the broad paths leading to Eagle Rock, but be careful to watch out...

Santa Ynez waterfalls and Trippet Ranch trail combo
by LAhikerchick on Mar 10, 2013
Los Angeles, California, United States
Hiking | 4.9 miles
Hike out to the Santa Ynez falls and then back to the Trippet Ranch portion of trail.  Hiked up to the first rocky outcrop and then back again.  This hike is not as long as the Skull Rock route but you get a good combo of creek crossings, waterfall, boulder scrambling, sunny uphill portions and a small cave to explore.

Hiking | 4.2 miles
Late afternoon hike.  Nice trail.  Lots of variety and interesting features incl caves.  First mile meanders thru shady forest and follows a stream, second mile is steeper, ascending the hillside to the ridgeline where there is a junction with the ridgeline trail.  The second mile has no shade.  I opted to turn back at the junction.  Great views in all directions from there.  Trippet Ranch looked to be about another quarter mile...
