Hiking | 2.0 miles (12.6 miles away)
This is not far from the Lou Campbell hike we did. The main trail is short but there are spur trails used for horseback riding or maintenance that you can explore off the main loop. Has features of the Oak Openings area. My sister was visiting from California and joined on this hike.

Oakwoods metropark - old South Huron road
by mark.klauza on Feb 05, 2012
Flat Rock, Michigan, United States
Hiking | 4.0 miles (33 miles away)
The girls and I decided to explore a section of Oakwoods Metropark that we have never been to before -- a walk down the old South Huron road.    When the park was created in the early 70's, South Huron road was closed and the homesteads along it were removed, leaving a well packed trail that I expected to find reverting to nature. What I found however, was a well groomed horse riding trail...

Very flat, but quiet walk. High probability of seeing deer, along with many bird species. The trail continues for several miles, but storm clouds were ruling in and I decided to head back down river road which is a pleasant walk itself.

Crosswinds Marsh winter walk
by mark.klauza on Jan 28, 2012
Waltz, Michigan, United States
Hiking | 4.1 miles (30 miles away)
Trying to keep my a new year's resolution to get out more in the winter, I decided to take advantage of the beautifully sunny day to hike some of the trails at Crosswinds Marsh.   Today, I walked the horse trail which skirts the outside perimeter of the park.I knew that the recent thaw would make things muddy and since Tessa, (my golden retriever), needed a bath anyway, I decided to take her along.  Wow...

Hiking | 9.3 miles (16.5 miles away)
A foggy November hike on a warm day on the 18 mile scout trail (yellow). Saw 6 deer on this trip thru the northern 1/2 of the park which is located south of Toledo's airport. I cheated and did the last 1.5 miles on the Wabash bike trail. This is the only place to do a long loop trail in NW Ohio.

Sunset hike on Longbark trail
by mark.klauza on Feb 12, 2012
Flat Rock, Michigan, United States
Hiking | 1.8 miles (33 miles away)
Ended a beautiful day with a trip along Longbark trail in Oakwoods.    Despite the cold, I love walking the trails in the winter and listening to the crunch of the snow beneath my boots.Saw lots of geese on the river but didn't see any other wildlife on the walk.

There really isn't much to say about this little hike. It really isn't even much of a hike. More like a walk. There are a few different trails here so you could put together a slightly longer walk by taking different trails. But not much longer.

Still one of my favorite spots in Michigan. Tons of wildflowers, butterflies, and dragonflies today. It was great!
