A strenuous 9 mile out-and-back hike that visits two beautiful seasonal waterfalls in Orange County.
When you think of hiking in Orange County, you don’t usually envision dramatic waterfalls. But during the spring, there are a number of wonderful seasonal waterfalls that are just a hike away. One of my personal favorites is Chiquito Falls. This hike is a 9 mile out-and-back route with nearly 3,000′ of vertical elevation gain. And it’s a waterfall...
Easy and relatively short hike. Yet, very beautiful scenes, and landscapes.
This is a easy and relatively short hike, yet offers a very complete experience. As the name says, it is a loop trail in the Cleveland National Forest, off of Ortega Highway. It goes through different portions of open trail and really old oak trees covered sections. You can enjoy views of landscape, a small waterfall in a gorge and go along the creek...
Explore the beautiful forest and mountain meadows of Palomar Mountain State Park
The beautiful forest and mountain meadows of Palomar Mountain State Park are in northern San Diego County on the west side of Palomar Mountain. Large pine, fir and cedar trees make the park one of the few areas in southern California with a Sierra Nevada-like atmosphere. Elevation within the park averages 5,000 feet above sea level, making evenings...

The Fallbrook Land Conservancy has done an outstanding job of providing an outstanding exercise trail in the San Diego North County. This loop covers about 4.1 miles and has some serious climbing. The climb exceeds that of Cowles and Iron Mountain. This loop consists of old abandoned roads and trails. The biggest bummer of the hike is the constant roar of traffic on Interstate 15. But mile for mile this trail will get...

Marley and I hiked up this steep and sometimes rough trail to the top in record time.
I used The Northface's Trailhead iPhone app to track the hike but the result was way off. The actual hike was about 9 miles/4 hrs. We started at around 9:30, spent around 1/2 hr at the falls for lunch break and ended at 2pm. Definitely switching to a different tracking app next time!

The Dripping Springs Trail is a great hike for people that want to get out of the city type trails, and into a more wilderness type trail. Just outside of Temecula, the trailhead can be found at the southern most loop of the Dripping Springs Campground. The trail ascends through a number of eco-systems as it climbs the north facing ridge. Initially the trail starts is rather short chaparral, but with time you will...

This track represents what I could do in four hours (in and out). I came up short on the Agua Tibia Peak by about a mile or more. Plan on six hours of hiking to make the peak and back along the same route. The full loop of Dripping Springs / Wild Horse Trail is around 20 miles.

Since I was hiking this as a solo I elected to set the county line as my end point. The reason behind this madness is simply there is no cell phone coverage past the ridge at the county split, thus being alone I wanted to be safe. The only real comment I have to make is the tremendous amount of over growth that has occurred past the 3.5 mile point. I spent a bunch...
