Hiking | 5.1 miles (5.0 miles away)
A short but really steep trip up Tehachapi Mountain. Only 5.2 miles round trip but almost 2,300 ft of gain. That works out to about 1,000ft of gain/mile.  After the road portion ends it is single track straight up the mountain with a few false summits. I left early and didn't see anyone on the way up. On the way down the crowds were showing up. But I could make out the...

Tehachapi Mountain Summit

Hiking | 5.4 miles (4.8 miles away)
A "short" distance hike with a vertical challenge.  I referenced ladyonarock's guide for this hike and it was very useful, even though she did it as a snowshoe hike.  Her comments on the false summits were right on.  The short plateaus did provide a spot to catch a breath.  The last 0.88 miles appears to approach a 45 degree angle.  The views were expansive and nicely framed by the tall pine trees....

First Hike of the year.  And Yes, I felt it.  I am getting smarter and I turned around while I had the energy to hike back.  Access to the Pacific Crest Trail is immediately off Tehachapi-Willow Springs road at Cameron Road.  I chose this hike because it is reasonalby close to Bear Valley Springs.  I also felt it would be less challenging in a vertical sense.  It still had 1000 ft of...

Sunday Neighborhood hike

Hiking | 4.1 miles (12.1 miles away)
My Neighborhood walk when I need a quick hike. Today had a hard mist more than a rain. At about three miles in I had to put on my Columbia rain jacket. The drop size was small, heard the rain on the brim of my hat more than I felt it. There were some animal remains on the trail. Think it was a spike buck. No carcass. Not sure...

Hiking | 5.0 miles (12.2 miles away)
Jeff and I hiked this oak lined trail, encountering very domesticated Mule Deer at the beginning of the hike.  There is no hunting allowed in Bear Valley Springs, so the deer population is booming and very accustomed to people.  This hike had the most wildlife that I have seen so far.  There is one tree picture that doesn't show very well, but five turkey vultures were waiting for us to keel over...

Looking for a place close to Bakersfield that has nice views. Easy hike to begin with but the last 0.88 miles up is extremely steep. Well worth it though.

We are planning a trip up Mt. Whitney in October 2011. We are planning training hikes to get in shape. I saw this hike on line. it happened to end near a friends house. This hike was perfect for us. We actually started at the end of this trail not At the house. I logged this trip on the way back to our car. took us five ours total.
