GPS is still not working properly. The actual mileage was 8.4. Great hike along the Mt. Holyoke Range! Started at the Notch Visitor Center and hiked the Metacomet - Monadnock Trail summitting Bare Mountain, Mt. Hitchcock and continued along to to the Summit House. The snow was beginning to fall as we reached the summit of Mt. Holyoke and continued for the hike back.
This is an easy hike alongside the Scantic River through medium-growth hemlock, birch, and other species of trees. The Scantic is suitable for fishing along this routs, as well as swimming at the head of the trail, very popular on hot summer days.
