New to the area so I don't know if there is a local name for this trail but I named it based on where I was. It was pretty steep and rocky at start and then leveled out a bit on top of the ridge. I'm not sure if there was a better return route but we ended up on the street below walking back to the car.

2/1/2013: TRAIL IS NOW CLOSED AS A RESULT OF TOO MUCH TRAFFIC. I GUESS EVERYTRAIL IS MAYBE A BAD THING? This is a great hike starting in Avila Valley and reaching a nice peak with gorgeous ocean views! Great hike, took us about an hour for 3.18 miles.
This hike is 9.6 miles round trip. You'll be hiking on an abandoned road for the majority of the trip. The trail is closed at certain times of the year due to its proximity to Vandenberg Air Force Base. There are a couple of minor drops leading down to the beach that you can scramble down or use ropes that have been left for you.

My first hike in Pismo! Bonnie E. led the way and it was a beautiful hike, ocean view on one side and wine country on the other. A little tricky on the way down...poles would have been helpful. But we made it back safe and sound. Can't wait to go again!
