Hiking near Paterson, New Jersey

Parked at Anthony Wayne lot. Headed west and north on the Anthony Wayne trail. Turned right on the 1779 trail, which merged with the Popolopen Gorge, Timp-Torne and 1777 W trails. Pete and I did an easy day hike in Western Harriman State Park.  We had a bunch of good photo opportunities and got to hang out with a snake for a bit.  Unfortunately we couldn't find any of the mines listed on the map.

This hike incorporated a variety of interesting aspects. It was a nice long loop that took us 4 hours, and there was not much in terms of breaks. This trail began in the afternoon at the visiting center of Sterling Lake Park. We starting our journey with the blue trail marker. This trail passes several residential home before we entered the forest. Came here on a scavenger hunt (for the Hawkwatch waymark) so followed the shortest route in and out. On a more leisurely day, I would follow the Four Birds loop, but if you're here to see the view and only have an hour, this is the way to go.That view is certainly worth it!

This hike is now one of my Top 10 Favorite Hikes.  The views were just spectacular and the rock scrambling challenging.  As you will see from the photos I was less than graceful on one of the scrambles  :-)  It was a great hike!

Quick two hour loop in the snow, just to work out the kinks and map the Orange trail, which I've been curious about.
