A strenuous distance hike to St. Stanislaus Kotska Catholic Church and cemetery ruins located in Patapsco state park in Maryland. This is the version for our hike leaders to use. There are pics and directions for every intersection and turn which should make the navigation much easier. Please never use this in place of a map and compass as electronics can always fail! Enjoy the hike and there are lots of feeder trails in this area for you to explore in addition to hooking up with Patapsco State Park. There is also...

Patapsco State Park - Ilchester to Ellicott City
by Cham101 on Apr 23, 2010

Hiking | 5.1 miles
This was mostly a bushwhack so don't get any ideas there is a trail between Ilchester and Ellicott City.   The area is very easy to hike, the trees are tall and block out enough light so there are almost no bushy invasive species that slow you down.    I started at the Ilchester parking area of the Patapsco State Park.I find this area of St. Mary's school riveting.  The beginning of the...

Hiking | 2.1 miles
This is the short loop of just about 2 miles. I think it might be 1/10th of a miles shy of 2 miles..  There is a way to get almost 5 miles out of this hike by adding the connecter trail which is posted on here under the same name except it reads, 5 mile version. This is one of the few trails that I know of in Maryaland that is not...

This time I mixed it up a bit. Instead of hiking on the Gwynns Falls trail I walked southward from Coppin State to the Carroll Park Golf Course on the railroad. There was much to see, but no trains went by.

Down the river from us is a dam that is going to be removed soon. We decided to take a walk and get a few pictures of the dam and the river, to references as before shots. Later, we'll see how much things have changed. That was the plan, anyway. We ended up spending more time in the woods, exploring the old St. Mary's site some, and wandering through the woods.

Patapsco - New Trail

Hiking | 1.1 miles
What?  How long has this been here?  Someone cut a trail near the overlook and the Buzzard Rock Trail.Carved out of the hillside for the hardcore.  It's above my pay grade, though.  I don't have the skills.  A lot of log jumps.  A pile of rocks.  A long rock garden.  Some slightly hairy descents. It's beautiful.  And terrifying.
