Ok, our speed wasn't blistering fast, but Bear is an old dog.
Dragged the kids to another torture session of fresh air, mild exercise and beautiful scenery. After a stop in the Nature Center we followed the wonderful comfy boardwalk through the Florida eco-system.
This was one of the Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Lands Program's "EEL Trail Days" events. The hike was led by Dr. Mike Knight, the EEL Program Manager. The Malabar Scrub Sanctuary is about 500 acres in size.

This is a great hike. There are several scenery changes from wide open scrub to swampy creek forest and an abundant amount of wildlife. I saw 3 Osceola turkeys, one of which ran like a roadrunner. A nice nature trail that meanders under the shade of a coastal, sub-tropical, palm/oak hammock and along the fringe of the mangroves. Plant identification signs tell about many of the unique species in this habitat. The trail is one mile long (1.6 km).
The trail runs beside swamps, through pine flatwoods and oak forests,
and along cypress forests. The loop trails make good day hikes.Hikers options in Tosohatchee Wildlife Management Area include taking

This is a walk/run/hike around the main paved loop at Wickham Park in Melbourne, FL. This is 1.4 miles for 1 complete lap. There is a 5K and 10K course available too. This is a very nice and safe park. There are numerous bathroom facilities available around the park. This trip is completely on the paved trail. There are numerous other unpaved trails to explore as well.

This is a very good hiking but in summer it may be too hot and in rain season the trail gets wet and dirty. The best time is winter and dry season when it is not too hot and dry.

Wednesday hiking club (Florida Trail Association) hiked in the Pine Island Consertaion Area (part of the Environmentally Endangered Lands Program) from the Pine Island Road entrance to Sams House and return. A total distance of about 4 miles.
