My wife and I took an afternoon stroll in the Little Big Econ State Forest, which is close to our home.
The
Wekiwa Trail passes through open scrubby flatwoods of pine and
palmetto, open prairies, hardwood hammocks, cypress swamp, and
vine-tangled wetlands. The trail makes several picturesque crossings of
spring-fed streams and follows the edge of scenic Rock Springs Run,
where Camp Cozy is a popular destination for backpackers.Animal life is abundant, including bear, deer, fox squirrels, wading birds, raccoons and alligators. The main loop is 8.4 miles long and starts and ends at Sand Pond.
Scenic connector trails lead...

Hiking | 2.2 miles (14.4 miles away)
This is a nice county park with a few short trails that parallel the Econ River. Good for a short walk in the woods.
These trails are not very impressive. Parts of the trail were soggy and overgrown. Maybe worth visiting if you are already in the park. The back of the trail map bulletin board indicates this was an Eagle Scout Project from 1995.
This is a nice county park with a great boardwalk.
Split Oak Forest - North Loop, Lake Loop, and Swamp Trail

The trails are really fire roads in loose sand with tire ruts. Therefore, you don't really feel like you are on a trail. In addition, the trails are only adequately marked. If you are not paying attention you might take a fire road that is not the main trail and get sidetracked. You don't follow blazes, but rather signs with numbers. The one nice thing about this...
Indian River Chapter of the Florida Trail Association
Single and multiple-use trails provide vast areas for exploration of
the varied natural communities and provide connections to approximately
20 miles of multiple-use trails located on the adjacent Lower Wekiva
River State Preserve. On Seminole State Forest, over 21 miles of hiking
trails have been developed and are maintained by the Florida Trail
Association. A 7.5 mile portion of the main Florida Trail begins at SR
46, and crosses the forest to SR 44. Other trails include the...
This trail departs from the Sable Palm neighborhood. About two miles down some clown has placed a new gate in his dispute over access rights. There is still plenty of pretty trail to hike however. There are infomational markers along the way placed by the Audobon Society. The area looks almost prehistoric with lots of birds, deer, palms and even a few small ponds.Great place for trail running.
The trail runs beside swamps, through pine flatwoods and oak forests,
and along cypress forests. The loop trails make good day hikes.Hikers options in Tosohatchee Wildlife Management Area include taking
an overnight hike or selecting one of several day hikes. On the north
side of the Area, a trail leads to a virgin bald cypress stand in Jim
Creek Swamp. Tosohatchee has a variety of wildlife, including deer,
turkey, armadillo, osprey, and eagles. The dikes provide good...

Hiking | 2.8 miles (13.4 miles away)
Spring Hammock Preserve is located in the middle of Seminole County, FL surrounded by schools, businesses, homes and busy roads. I drove past it for the last 20 years until my friend Leah found it in a hiking book and we went to explore.
There is a number of trails that go through an old forest with some of the oldest trees I have ever seen. Only a couple miles away is...

Hiking | 8.4 miles (24 miles away)
This is an area I hike quite a bit - the Seminole Ranch in Christmas Florida. I parked next to the RV park on RT50 in Christmas. On this day I took the orange blazed Florida Trail up to the game checkin station on Wheeler Road. I normally stop there and have lunch - there is a screened in area with a picnic table. I take a lot of photos around here...
This county park is close to my home, so I went to check it out. There is an environmental center, some camp sites, a small chapel, and some informative environmental markers along the trail. I also saw several deer and a rabbit.

This community park has several educational opportunities. There is also a trail that runs through the park.
This was a short hike we took with the Wilderness-Trekkers as part of their new member orientation. The trail is mostly boardwalk shifting to dirt toward the end. This is a good area for bird watching. Bring your glasses.
