With views of the Olympic Range, Puget Sound, and Vancouver Island, this hike is one to remember.
Hurricane Hill provides a quick hike out from the Hurricane Ridge Visitors Center to a small summit with 360deg panoramic views of Puget Sound, the Olympic Range, and Vancouver Island. As with seemingly any alpine hike, watch out for the rodents. The chipmunks and ground squirrels here are bold, climbing onto and into any pack left unattended. The...
Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge provides a great place to check out waterfowl and seabirds on the coast.
First things first: this is an epically long hike on sand. It doesn't appear to be so bad from the start, but the spit is deceptively long. That said, it's a great way to spend a nice day. The nice part is that you can turn back at any point, there are no monumental landmarks along the way that you'll miss if you don't make the end. That doesn't...

My fraternity brother Charles took a weekend trip to Seattle. He and I went on a fantastic beautiful day-hike to Marmot Pass in the Olympic National Forest.
A short hike from the Hurricane Ridge parking lot on the final summer-like day of the year in Western Washington. Trail continues far beyond our turnaround point.
My mother made this trip about 25 years ago, her first real summit. After she passed away in the spring of 2007, my brother and cousin and I decided to recreate the trip.

The sign at the trailhead says this trail is very steep and they are not kidding. This is one of the steepest trails in the Olympic National Park. Ed, Pavel, and I attempted to hike to the lake at the end of this trail. Gaining 3200' elevation in 2.9 miles, the trail cuts through some real rough terrain. After about an hour of grueling switchbacks we only made 0.8 miles. At that rate the trip would have...
This is a popular hike at the Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park. The trail is easy and paved to the hill top.

Took the dogs and an off-leash hike. Icy spots on trail in open areas even at the trailhead. GPS didn't register until downward stretch so stats might be off. Left car @ 11:45 returned @ ?
This was a trip to the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center in Olympic National Park. It is reached from a National Park road near Port Angeles. This area has high meadows and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. On the road there, we actually drove through the clouds to emerge into the bright sunshine. A short walk around the meadows will introduce you to some of the mountain wildflowers, if you go in...
This was a trip to Hurricane Hill in Olympic National Park. To get there, drive past the Visitor Center at Hurricane Ridge to a parking area a few miles down the road. This is a steep hike, but the trail is very well maintained. Once you get to the top, be prepared for some spectacular views. While there, we saw a set of mountain goats nearby, as well as gray-crowned rosy finches...
This was a trip to the Hoh River section of Olympic National Park. There is a Visitor's Center with informative exhibits and trail maps. We walked the Hall of Mosses (directly behind the Center) and Spruce (right of the Center) trails. Both trails are well marked and easy. These trails provide a good introduction to the rain forest habitat. Along the trail, we saw a Douglas squirrel. All in all, a pleasant walk.
Hoh Rain Forest hike from Ranger Station to campsite 0.9. Great views. We had the opportunity to drive all the way around the Olympic Forest and this was one of our quick stop and hikes. The weather was perfect. 50+ degrees and sunny the whole day.
