This cave is located on the west portion of the Wichtia Mountains. Cave is approximately 20 feet in diameter and approximately 30 feet deep. Very beautiful area with deer, song birds and other wildlife. Literature indicates at one time there were Spanish type markings within the cave but unfortunately I could not find them due to the graffiti on the walls. On the back wall of the cave is a hollowed out...

A short hike to the Bat Cave on the way home from the Spanish Cave. Very easy hike to the mouth or base of the cave. I could not access the cave due to it being approx 30 foot above the trail grade. It appeared that people have made access to the mouth via several make-shift type ladders using logs. Tried it a few times and decided it was not stable enough...

An easy to access spot on the south end of the Deep Fork NWR, the Coalton Bottoms trail is a 1/2 mile long gravel road that was converted from an old train track. The trail edges the Deep Fork River and has lots of places to veer into the woods or closer to the water. A small boardwalk has been built to overlook the river about 2/3rds of the way down the...
This was my first climb of Elk Mountain starting at Sunset Picnic area. My Iphone GPS application was "hit or miss" today so hopefully I can GPS the trip better next time. Trail is well worn except in a few places. It is a workout to climb to the top due to the elevation change and the number of rocks along the trail. Extremely clean area with little litter especially on top. ...
