2.7 mile trail near Carthage, Ohio
A really great, little known gem. Trails wind along ridges formed by Mill Creek Watershed. Good elevation change as you pass over bridges through gorges. Forest is full of mature Beech, Walnut, Oak. This preserve is a glimpse at what the Mill Creek valley might have been before industrialization.

Great 1.5 - 2 hour hike, I give it a moderate rating (has plenty of hills).
4th of July Weekend HikeA nice hike on the Redwing Trail with a few pleasant surprises along the way. Temps were in the 70s, low humidity... everything was still very lush. In the field ran into good company. A doe and her fawn ran by as I was examining the many blackberry bushes.
After the storm, I just had to come and check out the scenery. The entry to the park was rather deep but I had no issues! No fish tailing for me today! Love snowdays!
Good moderate trail with plenty of good scenery. I would have given it 5 stars but a good part of it is located near the road. Granted, the traffic is not heavy but even the occasional car passing by, in some ways, ruins the hike.
I started at the Vistors Center at Old Man's Cave which has concessions in the summer time, restrooms, and a Nature Center. I hiked up to the Upper Falls, then doubled back to the Lower Falls, and then proceeded to Cedar Falls. The trail between Old Man's Cave and Cedar's Falls is somewhat challenging with a few places you need to climb over fallen trees or squeeze through a slot in the...
This was a nice short hike with my son. We spent most of our time exploring the rock formations.
Last year I decided to treat myself and celebrate my birthday in one
of my favorite places on earth during peak fall color season. I'm doing
the same thing again this year. Hocking Hills is like a mini
Grand Canyon. You will never believe terrain like this exists in
southern Ohio. Just look at the pics from last year: http://camping.meetup... Location: The place we are staying is Indian Mound Lodge: http://indianmoundlod... The
place has 8 beds (4...
Took the day off. 70 degrees on Nov. 6. Hell yeah!
Buzzardroost Trail in AugustIncredibly gorgeous day for August to climb up to Buzzardroost, part of the Edge of Appalachia Preserve. 72 degrees and sunshine at the top.We enjoyed a picnic lunch of chicken salad, chips, and fruit before heading down. Fun time and great memory for the Moose Family!
Great workout with steep grades, creek crossing, and some rough terrain. I would have given it a higher rating if it weren't for the fact that you have to walk through Peninsula. First half of the trail is great though.
I rate it moderate to difficult due to the steep grades and the makeshift bridges that must be crossed.
This trail was not very picturesque but was a great workout. The slushy conditions made it extremely difficult to hike. This is probably a great trail to hike in the summer or in the snow with snowshoes but definitely not in 50 degree weather when the snow is melting. In these conditions I would rate it as “difficult” but otherwise I’d give it a “low moderate.”
Walked thru corn field down to river to park and return. This log is for the return only .
