Guides
This is one of my favorite shuttled-car loop hikes in the High Peaks with a beautiful ridge descent with open views.
This 11 mile shuttled-car hike is one of my favorite of all the Adirondack 46. You'll bag two more 4,000 foot peaks and descend over many smaller ones as you travel east down Rocky Peak Ridge. The ascent up Giant Mountain is amazing with great views the entire way up. You'll pass by several ponds on this trip for filtering water as well. Check out...
Via Whiteface Landing on Lake Placid. This is a great peak to finish your ADK on as your family can drive up to meet you
This is the most scenic route to the top of Whiteface in my opinion and the fact that you pass by a dock into Lake Placid where you can take a dip on the way back on a hot summer day is just fantastic. The summit has a huge alpine zone and a building with historic information in it for you to explore. There is also a road that goes all the way to...
On one overnight trip grab the entire Seward Range and another four 46er peaks
This trip is done in an overnight and could be the longest trip of all the 46er climbs you've done. You will start by following the Blueberry Foot trail from the trailhead to the the Ward Brook Trail where you can set up camp at POI #2. The herdpath for the main Seward peaks begins on the east side of the first stream the Ward Brook trail crosses....
Mt. Marcy Via Johns Brook Lodge. The Highpoint of New York State.
This is actually the slightly longer approach to Mt. Marcy but I feel like it is a better one because it offers a loop hike at the end using two different trails. If you were to do a loop hike from heart lake you would need to climb over a pass behind Colden and descend quite a bit before ascending Marcy (more elevation change). Also, going this way...
A fun loop hike up Big Slide and Yard with an easy descent down a ridge over the Brothers in the High Peaks of NY.
This is a fun loop hike from the Garden Parking Lot outside of Keene Valley that will bring you to the top of Big Slide, over the ridge to Yard and then return you via a gradual ridge descent with lots of open views towards the Great Range. You'll pass by historic Johns Brook Lodge on the way in and when you are on the top of Big Slide you will be...
Climb Mt. Colden on this beautiful loop hike through Avalanche Pass and returning via Lake Arnold.
On this beautiful loop hike you will pass through gorgeous Avalanche Pass and then ascend the steep Mt. Colden trail from the shores of Lake Colden. On top of this 4,715 foot peak you will have great views of the MacIntyre Range and also southeast towards the state highpoint, Mt. Marcy and the Great Range to the east. You will be able to look down...
Climb the MacIntyre Range in one day from Heart Lake over three 46er peaks including the 2nd highest in the state
Although a bit strenous this loop climb up the MacIntyre Range is one of the most beautiful climbs in all the High Peaks (might be a tie with Rocky Peak & Giant). I suggest that you travel past Marcy Dam to Avalanche Lake and ascend the range in that direction as the trail from Lake Colden up to the ridge is very steep and best climbed rather than...
This is a very short climb from Adirondack Loj to the top of this 46er which as wonderful views from summit ledges.
This is an easy climb from Adirondack Loj to the top of Phelps at 4,160 feet. Although the summit is wooded there are spectacular views spanning from the Great Range all the way to Algonquin with the state high point, Mt. Marcy framed in the center. You'll want to take some time at the top for photos. This is one of th easier climbs in the high peaks...
This detailed guide will take up two more 46er peaks without maintained trails to the top.
This is a long day hike from Adirondack Loj and heart Lake to two 46er peaks without maintained trails to their summits. You'll pass by a lake, and a massive slide going up Colden on the way to the start of the herd paths. When you start to head off trail onto the herdpaths please keep a close eye on the very accurate track in this guide and use it...
This very long hike will take you up the massive peaks of Saddleback, Basin and Haystack, grabbing you three more 46ers.
This hike will take you to 3 amazing 46er peaks including Mt. Haystack which I believe may have the best view of all the High Peaks. You will ascend the Ore Bed Brook Trail from Johns Brook Lodge until you get to the Range Trail to travel over Saddleback to Basin which is one of the steepest trails in the high peaks with a lot of scrambling over terraces...
Two more high peaks on an easy climb from the Lake Road below.
On this relatively straightforward climb you will walk down the Lake Road, then follow the Gill Brook trail up over Mt. Colvin to Blake Peak thus grabbing two more 46ers for your list. This is a climb up to the wooded summit of Table Top from Adirondack Loj Heart Lake.
This is a straightforward climb up Table Top from the Adirondack Loj at Heart Lake. You will follow the Von Hoevenberg trail to just before Indian Falls and then head off on a herd path up to the wooded summit with limited views. If you have the energy on the way out you can always tag on Phelps Mountain as well making this a two 46er peak hike and...
These two 46er's a good start for you list as they are right off Rt. 73.
This 4,098' tall peak along with it's neighbor Porter at 4,084 are great starter peaks for aspiring 46ers as they are close to the road an a relatively easy climb, albeit steep. When you get to the junction and you are tired take the time to rest on Cascade and continue on to Porter as this is the easiest way to get both mountains.
A great family hike to the top of a small mountain with great views of the Southern Adirondacks and a fire tower.
This short round trip trail of only 3 miles follows red trail markers from the parking lot to the top with amazing views of the southern Adirondacks. You will find an old ranger station at the top as well as a restored fire tower. You will also have great views on the way up. Bring a camera. This is a great family hike.

This is a fun seven mile loop hike that brings you over the summit of Sleeping Beauty to Bumps Pond and then back. Althouth these two peaks have wooded summits the hike is relatively straightforward and easy except for some blowdown near the top of Nye that you might encounter. Street has a nice viewpoint near the summit. You should have views of the MacIntyre Range on this trip while you bag two more 46er peaks without maintained trails. Follow the gps track...

For those seeking to climb all 46 Adirondack Peaks above 4,000 ft you can't be legit unless you climb this unlisted one!
This peak in the Adirondack High Peaks is over 4,000 feet in height but when the initial surveys were taken to name the 46 high peaks for the climbing club it was considered under 4,000 feet. With more accurate laser and gps surveys this has become the unlisted 4,000 footer of the high peaks and for those 46ers with any grain of self-respect this is...
This is a fun alternative bushwack climb to the top of Esther from the Whiteface Memorial Highway.
This is a short but challenging winter climb up Mt. Esther from the Mt. Whiteface Memorial Highway. You'll climb up the road with either snowshoes or AT ski gear then drop it where you start to head into the thick brush up Mt. Esther. You'll have great views of Mt. Climb this trailess peak from Upper Works to claim another 46er and the southernmost peak of the MacIntyre Range.
Mt. Marshall is the most southern peak of the beautiful MacIntyre Range but unfortunately it is a bit removed from the next peak, Iroquois Pek, so it does not have any maintained trials to its summit. The clearest herdpath to the top is to follow Herbert Brook from the Flowed Lands just between the Flowed Lands and Lake Colden. You'll have great views...
In this long hike you will climb three more 46er peaks that do not have maintained trails on them.
On this hike you will climb 3 more ADK 46er peaks. These peaks do not have maintained trails to their summits so you will need to follow the gps track in this guide carefully to follow the herd paths. You will leave Upper Works and follow a trail to Bradley Pond before heading off on the herd paths. When you get up to the ridge you'll be at a 4-way...
A short jog up a 4,000 foot peak in the Catskills and another on your NE 111er list.
This is a very easy climb up Slide Mountain in the Catskills. Like other summits in the Catskills the top is wooded but there is an overlook near the top that offers great views over the surrounding hills. You'll also pass through very distinct forest stands on the way to the top (look at the mountain in satellite view to see what I mean). I did...
Three Catskill peaks over a beautiful mountain range. These aren't on any major peak list but are worth the trip.
This is a fun hike over a beautiful range in the Catskills. You will climb 3 different peaks in this hike and have various views from near the wooded summits of each. To do this one-way hike you can shuttle cars or, as I did, drop a bike off at the Big Hollow Trailhead and bike back to the starting trailhead when you are done with the hike.
A 4,000 foot Catskill peak and one of the Northeast 111 in an easy day hike up to a great fire tower lookout.
This is the most difficult route up Hunter Mountain but also the shortest climbing 2,000 feet in just 2 miles! The top of this mountain has a little cabin, picnic table and a great fire tower you can climb for unbelievable views in all directions and down to the ski trails lower on the mountain.

A terrific shuttled car climb over the northern part of the Tongue Mountain Range above beautiful Lake George.

Over the lake on a clear day you will see the High Peaks towering to the north. Tip: Head up here on the 4th of July to camp out on the summit. See my explaination in the summit...
A beautiful loop hike up Crane Mountain complete with suspended ladders up cliffs and a descent past a mountain pond.

It's a great hike for little kids or an older family member who you would like to get into the outdoors. It's also a good hike if you have time and energy after another shorter 46er hike like Phelps...

A nice short climb to the top of a smaller peak in the Adirondack High Peaks
A fun hike up Pitchoff Mountain past some glacial eratics left behind called the "Balancing Rocks" area. The summit ridge has great views over all the high peaks too. This is a great hike for any season, just watch out if it is icy up on the rocks on the way up.
