Climb up to Black Hill with great views from the summit.
Black Hill is the second to last of nine volcanic plugs that lie between San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay (the last being Morro Rock itself). The hike to the top travels through Fleming's Forest--a hillside of Monterey Pine trees that were planted by John Fleming (a former park superintendent). It is rumored that Black Hill received its name due to the...

New to the area so I don't know if there is a local name for this trail but I named it based on where I was. It was pretty steep and rocky at start and then leveled out a bit on top of the ridge. I'm not sure if there was a better return route but we ended up on the street below walking back to the car.
Hell 2 + after GPS died.

A nice quick hike on the coast in Montana de Oro State Park. Lots of views, climbing around and even a bit of wildlife. Dog friendly, bike friendly (except when we were climbing up and down to the water) and lots of joggers.

Montana de Oro State Park is situated on the California central coast near Los Osos. It offers a variety of hiking and biking trails, with separation of some hiking/equestrian-only trails also. This GPS track is a loop on the hiking side past Spooner's Cove that provides a very complete experience of MDO's differing terrains. We put together a small group from the Air Force team at Vandenberg AFB, about an hour south,...

Really easy hike (walk) along the coast. Completely flat (beside some small canyons). The app got a wrong record of the altitude (there's no 1662.5 ft vertical up or down. It's 10 ft max above see level everywhere. You can spot a lot of wildlife : double-crested cormorants, pelicans, long-billed curlew, snowy egrets, seals...

2/1/2013: TRAIL IS NOW CLOSED AS A RESULT OF TOO MUCH TRAFFIC. I GUESS EVERYTRAIL IS MAYBE A BAD THING? This is a great hike starting in Avila Valley and reaching a nice peak with gorgeous ocean views! Great hike, took us about an hour for 3.18 miles.
This is a lovely hike to the summit of Cerro Alto. This route follows the Canyon Trail from Cerro Alto Campground to the summit, then returns via the West Cuesta Ridge Road and the Boy Scout Trail. The eucalyptus grove and old mining prospects are particularly interesting. Views of Morro Bay from the summit of Cerro Alto are outstanding.
