Long loop of the Wilderness Trail in Meramec State Park.
Meramec State Park has some truly beautiful trails. The Wilderness Trail (Long Loop) is well worth the effort. Although this trail is beautiful in the Spring and Fall the terrain is hidden behind thick green foliage. This guide based on my recent winter hike on the trail. Be sure you are ready for elevation changes as this trail offers up plenty....
Trips
One of the best hiking/running trails near St. Louis. Even better when done after Thanksgiving :)
Nine Webelos Cub Scouts (10 and 11yr olds), one Boy Scout (12 yr old) and five dads started this hike at 8:30am on a beautiful, sunny, crisp 20 degree morning. It was the perfect day for a hike. I've hiked this trail several times with my older scouts. It's just a gem of a trail. Beautiful views from the bluffs a couple of hundred feet above the Missouri river. The boys had a...
Taum Sauk - Highest point in Missouri and Mina Sauk Falls (Missouri's tallest falls.)
This beautiful, 60 degree, early March Saturday, we brought the scouts to Beaumont to hike the Red Trail. Last time we did this trail was back in July '09, when we hiked it at night while attending Webelos Weeklong camp. That was a hot muggy night, and the boys loved it. This time they got to hike it in daylight, without leaves on the trees. It was awesome. 10 Webelos scouts,1 boy scout (Sam),...
This is a quick little loop hike that I like to do with my friend's dog. It has a few hills in it, but not strenuous. This loop takes you through some woods, a meadow, lake and pond side and down a country lane.
Cool day, had to do it. Found a 7 inch clam. (not pictured)
This is a nice hike in Meramec State Park.
We have a cache on the edge of a glade that we placed back in 2005 for the
Midwest Open Geocaching Event. The name of the cache is “Glade View”. This is
really nice hike with some great views of the Meramec
River. This should be a great location for some sunset pictures
also.
This is a nice trail - but do NOT recommend hiking this time of year - August. Lot of downed trees so had to go through brush, and came back COVERED in hundreds of teeny tiny seed ticks!!!! Took an hour or more to scrub them all off when got back. Knats were bad too. Would be a great trail in spring, fall or winter.Did get a good workout, for when the...
A winter hike around Crane lake on a chilly, but nice day.
Hiking at Cathedral Canyon and Black Mountain Falls.
One of my favorites in the Missouri Ozarks. The Arcadia Valley is beautiful, and this is a great hike, especially in the winter time! www.hikethemidwest.comwww.kayakthemidwest.com Wish we had more sunlight or else we would have gone further....good trail to backpack camp on
