The Volunteer Day Loop is part of Long Hunter State Park. In addition to the loop, a camping area can be reached from this trail. The trail winds through wooded areas and along the lakeshore. It's a pleasant and rewarding hike featuring great views of Percy Priest Lake. The spur part of the trail leads from the trailhead through relatively flat terrain until it reaches the lakeshore. From there, I took the north...
This pleasant, short loop winds through limestone gravel areas and cedar glades. The parking area is rather small but the trail probably won't be crowded at all. The canopy is dense enough to keep the trail cool in the summer months. The trail does resides...

The lake views on this hike are certainly a highlight of the scenery. The bulk of the trail you’re able to frequently catch glimpses of Percy Priest Lake, especially at the beginning and end of this out-and-back trail. The trail is mostly shaded by tall, thin Tennessee trees. As far as wildlife goes, we heard lots of birds throughout the hike, but didn’t see too many. We did, however, come upon a companion...
