Fremont Peak State Park, California, United States (8.6 miles away)

Moderate: 1.1 miles, 1 hour or less
360 degree view of Monterey Bay, San Benito Valley, Salinas Valley, and the Santa Lucia Mountains east of Big Sur.

The trail starts off by going up the service road a few feet, and cuts off to the right. The trail is very nicely up-kept, and is wide enough for two people. The loop is fairly short and only takes about thirty minutes to complete. The trail gets fairly steep at the end and can prove challenging for some people. For the less eager there is a great...

See the Bay Area bloom in a hidden corner of Henry Coe State Park. Strenuous 9-mile hike.

Henry Coe State Park south of San Jose is one of the best places see the Bay Area's spring wildflowers bloom. The park is all rugged countryside: hills, ridges, canyons -- genuine wilderness barely an hour's drive from a huge metropolitan area. The park's main entrance attracts throngs of flower gazers every spring, but few visit the remote Coyote...
Valley Oak Trail at Coyote Lake
Valley Oak Trail at Coyote Lake
Coyote Lake-Harvey Bear Ranch County Park, California, United States (17.3 miles away)

Moderate: 5.5 miles, 1-3 hours
Shady hike is a great getaway from the campgrounds at Coyote Lake County Park.

Coyote Lake County Park southeast of San Jose has plenty of options for boaters, paddlers and campers, but the hiking options were pretty thin until Santa Clara County acquired the neighboring Harvey Bear Ranch section, the halfway point of this out-and-back hike. This route starts across the road from the Lake View Campground -- a handy trailhead...

A Coe Trifecta

Hiking | 15.1 miles (15.9 miles away)
A nice tour of three peaks from the Hunting Hollow entrance. I had intended to only do Vasquez peak today since I'd been to Willson Peak before but when I consulted the map at a decision point I decided to throw in Willson and then added Rock Springs Peak later on so it became a trifecta of sorts. The hike starts along the nice flat Hunting Hollow trail with about four creek crossings,  the...

Pacheco State Park: Fog Descends
by navratil on Jan 10, 2010
Santa Nella Village, California, United States
Hiking | 5.8 miles (17.8 miles away)
The day started with being tasked to get my two-and-a-half year old son out of the house for most of the day.  There was a dinner party in the works, and Pete is a bit too inquisitive to be able to handle raw lamb and half-rolled grape leaves sitting on the counter while preparations were underway.I decided to head to Pacheco State Park, primarily because I'd never been there before and it...

Henry W. Coe State Park - Bill's Hill and Osos Ridge
by Vaudesir on Nov 07, 2009
Old Gilroy, California, United States
Hiking | 7.5 miles (15.9 miles away)
For quite some time, I had my eyes on Bill's Hill, a peak in Coe's far South area. On the map, it seems quite a simple hike. You just hike along Hunting Hollow Road and then take Bill's Hill Trail to climb to the Osos Ridge. The trail continues along this ridge until it hits Bill's Hill.I noticed though, that on my GPS, another trail, Osos Ridge Trail, would allow me to...

Coe in October ... the Willson Story
by sammydee on Oct 03, 2010
Hiking | 8.7 miles (15.9 miles away)
A great hike with Laurent, Rebecca, Dave and Karl. I've been to Willson Camp twice before this year ...  http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=689846 and http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=590755 ... but I wanted to go again.  I'm fascinated by that water spigot at the camp, and wondered if it still had water even this late in the year.I randomly tweeted that I wanted to go, and a plan was born.  I arrived a little later than the others to the trailhead.  By the...

Hiking | 3.7 miles (16.4 miles away)
A quick hike to check out the wonderful job SCCP, @sammydee and all the other amazing volunteers have done on this new trail.  This immediately goes up on my favorites list for the area.  Nicely graded,  some new wildflowers,  a chance at seeing a big kitty (a Mountain Lion has a den down below they believe) and wonderfully placed picnic tables to enjoy the views and have some lunch.  Come check it out while...

Hiking | 3.8 miles (16.5 miles away)
It was a cold rainy Christmas day but I managed to get in a short hike at Harvery Bear Ranch.  Since we just had several weeks of rain I decided to try the Roop Road entrance hoping the higher trails would not be so muddy.  For the most part the trails we better but still had plenty of slipping and sliding.I ventured out and around Mummy mountain and cut over the top although I...

Tarantula hike - Hunting Hollow Road - Henry Coe State Park
by Vaudesir on Sep 26, 2009
Old Gilroy, California, United States
Hiking | 6.8 miles (15.9 miles away)
I hadn't been in Coe for a few months, and despite the heat this weekend, I really wanted to visit Hunting Hollow Road again. It's a beautiful place, and if I could not see tarantulas there, I would not see any this year.I packed a lot of water, because when it's in the 90's in San Jose, Coe is deadly hot. It was hot indeed but not too bad. I decided that I...

Henry Coe SP Hunting Hollow to Redfern Pond
by antonyw on Jan 17, 2009
Old Gilroy, California, United States
Hiking | 9.6 miles (15.7 miles away)
A wonderful winter's day hike up to Redfern pond via the Phegley Ridge trail.  I came back down Wagon trail which seems a little mellower than the Redfern trail on the descent.  That looks horrendously steep at the bottom, even steeper the usual Coe trails.

Hiking | 10.3 miles (15.9 miles away)
A nice loop up to Willson peak  and Rodeo Pond with the exception of  Steer Ridge trail which is the suck,  1100' in one mile. Fortunately ROMP is putting in a nicely graded upgrade to the Jim Donnelly trail.  Should be fun when it's done.

Hiking | 10.2 miles (15.9 miles away)
One of my favorite hikes on the nicely graded more civilized trails in this area ;-) A chilly start with temps dipping down to 39F,  Willson Peak was in the clouds.  We headed up the Jim Donnelly trail on the new routing until the last top section where we took the good old fashioned Coe trail that runs perpendicular to the contour lines.  A nice break at Willson Peak with some cool...
