Las Vegas Overlook
Las Vegas Overlook
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States (24.8 miles away)

Moderate: 6.3 miles, 1-3 hours
A hike with a stunning view of the Las Vegas Valley and Red Rock Canyon

This is a hike to the Muffins and a trail that goes along the edge of Blue Diamond Hill with views of the Las Vegas Valley. You return by a mountain bike trail called the Boneshaker. This is my favorite hike in this area. It's the one I've done the most often, and I will go to Blue Diamond Hill on those days when I want to do some hiking and just...
Lovell Canyon Trail
Lovell Canyon Trail
Kyle Canyon Summer Home Area, Nevada, United States (33.7 miles away)

Easy: 5.5 miles, 1-3 hours
A hike off the beaten path near Red Rock Canyon in the Rainbow Mountain Wilderness.

This is an easy hike that takes you through some beautiful wooded area. There are a lot of juniper and pine trees along the trail. The trail tends to go up and down in elevation so be prepared for that. The trail was put in place by the US Forest Service with the help of local horse people. It is a trail which can be done in a loop as shown here...
Gray Cap Peak
Gray Cap Peak
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States (26.5 miles away)

Difficult: 6.2 miles, Half day
Hiking Gray Cap Peak in Red Rocks is a great workout and offers some amazing views.

You begin the hike rather easily. Follow the Calico Tanks signs out of the parking lot to the north, then headright into the canyon that emerges. You will experience a long, winding, short-hill descent, and then will arrive at an intersection of two valleys.(Wpt3) Be sure to head left at this point. You can follow the trail (often just to the east of...
Goldstrike Hot Springs
Goldstrike Hot Springs
Boulder City, Nevada, United States (13.2 miles away)
Difficult: 6.5 miles, Half day
A strenuous hike through a wonderful canyon to some hot springs pools.

This hike is one of a kind. There are 8 fixed ropes if you go all the way to the river. Some are difficult especially when coming back up. You will have wet boots and having them hold on the boulders you need to climb can be a slippery affair. At the 1.5 mile point of the hike, you come to the first obstacle, a large boulder with what looks like...
Echo Canyon - Fossil Ridge Loop
Echo Canyon - Fossil Ridge Loop
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States (24.8 miles away)
4.5 mile trail near Las Vegas, Nevada

Blue Diamond Hill, across from the main part of Red Rock Canyon, offers some great hiking trails. Many of these were created by mountain bikers and some were created by the horseback riding concession that operates near the trailhead. Parking for this hike is along SR 159 just outside the entrance to the horseback riding road. The hike takes...
The Potato Knoll
The Potato Knoll
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States (25.6 miles away)
Easy: 4.7 miles, 1-3 hours
An easy hike in Red Rock Canyon outside of the Scenic Drive Loop.

This is a great hike at Red Rock Canyon without driving the Scenic Drive to get to the trailhead. The trailhead is the large parking lot at the exit of the 13 mile Scenic Drive. It's sometimes referred to as the horse parking lot. From the parking lot, cross the scenic drive exit just inside the tire spikes. The trail goes southwest toward the...
White Rock Loop
White Rock Loop
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States (29.1 miles away)
Moderate: 6.3 miles, 1-3 hours
A hike in Red Rock Canyon with great contrast.

This hike at Red Rock Canyon near Las Vegas, Nevada is a study in contrast. You are always in the Mojave Desert, but it looks markedly different depending on your elevation and the amount of precipitation the area gets. With the White Rock Loop, you see typical desert plants. On the west side of the mountain, hidden from the Scenic Drive, is a...
Charlie's Spring Loop
Charlie's Spring Loop
Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada, United States (40.2 miles away)
Moderate: 6.7 miles, 1-3 hours
A Valley of Fire loop hike with great views and water - year round.

This is a hike to a spring that has water year round. The spring seeps out of the ground and runs in a small stream through some grasses that result from this water in an otherwise dry area. There are numerous cat tails and tamarisk. There is evidence of recent rains bringing down mud and gravel when the water ran quickly down the wash to the east. We...

Lake Mead Railroad Tunnel Trail

Lake Mead, Nevada, United States
Hiking | 4.6 miles (11.8 miles away)
Easy 5 mile out and back hike (although you can go all the way to the Hoover Dam, approx. 4-5 miles one way) along Lake Mead. In 1931, work begin on what was known as the Boulder Dam and more than 30 miles of rail lines were built to haul materials need to build the dam.  The trail takes you through the River Mountains, approximately 500 feet over Lake Mead, offering scenic views...

Lake Mead, Nevada, United States
Hiking | 3.3 miles (10.3 miles away)
This is a pleasant, easy hike at Lake Mead through some very pretty slot canyons.  The trailhead is the northernmost section of the #33 Hole picnic and scenic viewing area about 5 miles south of the fee entrance station on Lake Mead Parkway by Lake Las Vegas.  Head south on Lakeshore Road and you get to #33 Hole. From the end picnic table, hike down a steep chute to where the lake used...

Liberty Bell Arch

Arizona, United States
Hiking | 5.6 miles (17.4 miles away)
This is an interesting hike to three nice features.  First, you come to an old manganese mine.  It's about 50 feet in depth, and it's quite safe to enter.  There are a few skylights cut into the rock that let in light.  You can see some rails in the ground from small ore cars.Continuing on the trail, you approach Liberty Bell Arch, a natural erosion of rock that resembles the Liberty bell....

Hiking | 7.7 miles (21.1 miles away)
Incredible hike in Lake Mead NRA that has some great variety - mine ruins, interesting geology, rock hounding, canyons, narrows, red rock, and a good scrambly fun peak. Despite the stats this is *not* an easy hike - the stretch from the parking through the narrows is straightforward, but route finding up to the peak and back down on the other side is complicated and dangerous terrain. I used a GPS track recorded...

Arizona Hot Springs/March of Death
by geobau on Oct 10, 2009
Arizona Hot Spring, AZ, Nevada, United States
Hiking | 7.9 miles (17.5 miles away)
We hiked down to the AZ Hot Springs by way of the traditional path and soaked, then instead of making this an out-and-back decided to loop back through the parallel canyon. Misleading cairns and poor trail upkeep led us off trail through some rough scrambles to a dead-end 30-foot sheer wall. The sun was about 5 minutes from setting at this point, so we began to track back. I scrambled up a...

Hiking | 2.7 miles (8.6 miles away)
My GPS tracking crashed on the way up when I got a phone call. (I got the iPhone 3GS) I started the tracking from the top down and it work fine. It's a good hike with good trails all the way. Once you get past the switchbacks, you come to a sign at the top, Red Mtn Bike Trail is to your left & Black Mtn Overlook is to your right. This...

Red Rocks Turtlehead Peak
by cooken74 on Feb 22, 2009
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States
Hiking | 3.8 miles (26.6 miles away)
Mike and I hiked up to Turtlehead Peak after the 2009 WPMA show in Vegas.  We climbed the peak via the trail until mid way up the wash leading to the saddle just west of the peak.  At that point we traversed right into a prominent cut in the lower cliff band and scrambled to the ridgeline via the cut.  Once on top of the ridge, we post-holed through knee high snow...

Calico Basin into Red Rock

Summerlin South, Nevada, United States
Hiking | 4.4 miles (24.5 miles away)
Lots of rock scrambling and no trail for a good portion of the trip.  Didn't take as many pics as I wanted to because I was trying to find my way to Claico tank form the backside.  I didn't make it this time, but now I know where not to go.  It looks so easy when you look at maps but out there on the rocks it's a different story.
