5 miles of the most meticulously groomed trail you've ever walked on, including 15 bridges and crushed gravel and shell trailbeds. Very busy even in December.
This is a nice scenic hike in the Newport News City Park that takes about an hour at a good clip. It's mostly flat and trails are clearly marked. There are several boardwalk overlooks that make excellent fodder for nature and landscape shutterbugs. This is also an excellent route for Trail Running as well as Bird Watching.

Not much when I think about my childhood days in northern Michigan, but certainly enough to stir things up here. First Landing State Park is a popular trail running and hiking spot. I couldn't resist getting out in the fresh snow. As it turned out, even though I went pretty...

Easy hike. Rainy Sunday morning. Temperature in the mid-70s. Trail was passable, but did have several mud holes. Trailhead is adjacent to Stumpy Lake, which offers an excellent flat water paddling respite.
