Pipiwai Trail & Waimoku Falls, Haleakala NP, Maui
Hana, Hawaii, United States

Moderate: 4.0 miles, Half day
A unique and very special waterfall hike where your adventures begin even before you reach the trailhead.

A favorite Maui hike, yet for some people the drive to the trailhead alone is excitement enough. The Hana Highway is sixty miles of scenic but curvy coastal road, reportedly featuring 620 curves and 59 bridges, most of which are single-lane bridges. If you relish your driving experiences then the Hana Highway alone is a "must-do". The 4 mile round...

Descend into the enormous and otherworldly crater of Maui's Haleakala National Park

Maui's highest point is the summit of Haleakala, where you'll find the immense caldera of possibly the largest dormant volcano on the planet. This short hike descends into the crater to explore the dramatic history of the mountain with its many cinder cones and lava lava flows. Elevation gain: • 1,600ft (from 8,300 – 9,900ft) Tips: •...

Hawai'i: Maui - Haleakala National Park (Seven Sacred Pools)
by ripcitybeaver on Aug 02, 2011
Hiking | 5.1 miles
This hike has a bit of everything, including an AMAZING hike through a large bamboo forest, and a stunning waterfall, as well as several "sacred" pools that could be good for swimming (although not recommended by the park).

fantastic little hike down to the top of the first cinder cone.  Air was as still as could be, and completely silent within the crater-valley.  Very few folks on the trail, too.  Combined the silence of being in a closed room all by yourself, with the expansiveness of in a massive valley, being able to see for miles.  Amazing experience.

Waimoku falls. I was under time constraint so I did this two 3 hour hike in 2 hours and 10 minutes. The coolest part of this trip, besides the falls, was the walk through the bamboo forest.

Beautiful place that deserves your entire day! We spent several hours exploring the "Seven Sacred Pools" jumping off the fall and swimming in the pools. After lunch, we headed up the Pipiwai Trail. Words cannot describe the beauty of this place. It just seeps into your soul.

Closed this day for swimming, so we could get the photographs of the pools sans people! Not enough time (and too rainy) to do the waterfall trail. Took the right at the picnic table through the grass.

It seemed like it was raining everywhere else on Maui this day, but managed to only drive through it. The pools were closed due, but I would not have wanted to get in them, anyway! We've done this hike just once before in the summer, I believe. It was somewhat challenging, as I did recall. We were highly surprised and disappointed that the two best turn offs were closed -- with official...

Hike into Haleakala Crater
by Bike4life on Jun 21, 2012
Kula, Hawaii, United States
Hiking | 4.7 miles
My final hike here on the Island of Maui. Descending 1,600' in 2.5 miles down into the crater among the cinder cones. When I started I at 9AM I found that I was alone after the first little overlook. When I made it down to split rock. I found thatI was the only soul for miles. It was so quite and bereft of sound that it was almost eerie.
