Hiking | 2.6 miles (26 miles away)
First off, the name of the park is Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park.  This was one of Teddy's projects back in the day to give people jobs with the CCC in the 1920's.  If you are looking for a different side of FL... this is it.  At times I thought I was back in NC!The trail is short and well marked.  After the decent down the numerous flights of concrete...

Wimberly Estates, Florida, United States
Hiking | 0.7 miles (5.6 miles away)
In the midst of north Florida's sandy terrain and pine forests, a bowl-shaped cavity 120 feet deep leads down to a miniature rain forest. Small streams trickle down the steep slopes of the limestone sinkhole, disappearing through crevices in the ground. Lush vegetation thrives in the shade of the walls even in dry summers. A significant geological formation, Devil's Millhopper is a National Natural Landmark that has been visited by the curious...

Paynes Prairie Hike Jackson Gap trail
by bobandrobin on Dec 25, 2013
Micanopy, Florida, United States
Hiking | 3.8 miles (7.5 miles away)
This was our first time hiking in the park, we loved it. Beautiful and well maintained this place is a gem. We didn't have enough time to see more of the park and were talking about a return trip on our way back to Jacksonville.  The observation tower at the visitor center is not on our track but well worth the time to check out the view!

Gold Head Branch State Park

Loch Lommond, Florida, United States
Hiking | 2.4 miles (26 miles away)
There are four marked trails within Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park. These trails vary in length from a short 10-minute walk to a full three-hour hike that we recommend for the experienced hiker. The Ravine Ridge meanders along the upper ridge of the ravine between the ravine stairway and the mill site. Hikers can see the contrasts between the sandhill and ravine communities. The Loblolly Trail loop begins and ends...
