I chained together a series of small loops in the Western Section of Eno River State Park, northwest of Durham, North Carolina. This is a great park for hiking -- lots of trails along creeks and the Eno River. Scenic even after the leaves have fallen; I imagine it's spectacular at peak season, but also pretty crowded. Trip write-up at Two-Heel Drive.
Beth, Reilly, Griffin and I took a very nice hike Saturday to the Eno Rock Quarry. It was a very nice hike for a 3 year old and 4 month old and the quarry water was crystal clear.
Today, Sandy and I hiked at Eno River State Park, doing hike 14 of the 100 Classic Hikes. The group will be doing this hike while we are on our honeymoon, so I wanted to get caught up. We hiked down to Fews Ford from the parking lot and took Buckquarter Creek Trail going counterclockwise. At the split, we took Ridge Trail up to where it crosses Buckquarter Creek. There is no...
A nice hike along the Eno River in Eno River State park just north of the Triangle in North Carolina.
This morning, I hiked at Eno River State Park from the Few's Ford area. I parked at the last parking lot and headed out along the Cox Mountain Trail. I crossed the swinging bridge and followed the trail to where it splits. Here I turned left to climb up the mountain. Not much of a mountain, but the trail up to an elevation of about 700 feet was fairly steep and I...
At Eno River State Park. Still ice on the trail, and on steps. Where it wasn't icy, the ground was either frozen or muddy. I wore my new microSpikes, the whole hike, which worked out great.

Nice little hike on a slightly chilly day.
Beginning at the parking lot for the Piper-Cox Museum, the Buckquarter Creek Trail goes up the river at Few's Ford. A staircase takes visitors to a view of the Eno River rapids down below. This 1.5-mile (2.4 km) loop is marked by red dots. This hike may be lengthened by crossing the Buckquarter Creek bridge and going west on the Holden Mill loop or following the Ridge Trail north from the intersection.

This section of the Mountains to Sea trail just opened in 2010, winding through the pine-mixed hardwood forests of the Eno River State Park. This section offers a mix of flood plain and bluffs, a bit of history, and surprising quiet. The trail surface is simple, and much of this stretch still lacks trail markers.
