encountered since the mountains of Ruidoso. Though we were well protected against the sun,
the heat still managed to leave its mark. This, coupled with the loose rocks one is
constantly walking over and of course the slope, make me rate this hike as

This is not a hike for those afraid of heights. The difficult parts would be getting up the
mountain in McKelligon
Canyon and then getting
up the chains by The Window. If you
decide to follow my trail instead of heading to Smuggler’s Pass, then the rock
climbing right before reaching the arroyo is extremely difficult.

This hike started as a hike up to the B-36 wreck in the Franklin Mountains. As we took a wrong turn at Waypoint 1 (the big rock), this hike quickly turned into a hump up the side of the mountain up to the little stone shack. This is trail is moderately easy. A very nice Sunday trek. Very clearly marked, and as you can see from my track, a lot of off-shoot trails.
