Great little hike through the coastal wilderness. We took the Blue Route which is the longest hike available in the Crystal Cove State Park.
Our first excursion hiking together...in fact this was Shay's first recollection of a true hiking experience at all. It was a warm sunny day, especially for the middle of January. At first it seemed rather simple and flat, then Scott like a monkey from the rainforest scaled a 90 degree wall to examine an amazing cave. I stared in astonishment at what ease his body moved up the wall. Needless I stayed...
hike 2, El Moro Park. This was the second time for me to do this and I love this set of trails.
Phone turned off by accident, had to restart 1/2 way through hike. This time of day there were a lot of bugs flying around. This was a good day to Hike though.
from the staging area we went up the strong hill on willow canyon road, then across the laurel spur trail, to return down the laurel canyon trail which had lots of poison oak, a 100 ft waterfall that was dry and a breezy meadow dotted with cool rock formations with little caves in them. checked out the stuffed animal displays inside the ranger station trailer too.
took the canyon trail up then edison road down to barbara's lake where we saw lots of wildlife. then over to the nature center, around mary's loop and then back under laguna canyon road to return to the staging area on the lake trail. very nice trek to start our four hike day.

Solo hike. Medium pace. This was my first attempt using the the tracking iPhone application. Worked almost perfectly, but when I uploaded it, it doubled the distance on my stats. The distance was actually 7.21 miles.

Will not do a noon start again. Very stupid to go out at that time.
Started at Ridge Park ( off Newport Coast, Newport Beach CA - drive to end). It's a popular area on the weekends, so do NOT wear headphones - you need to hear bikers and runners as they approach you from behind. We took Bommer Ridge trail to Moro Ridge (post #5). There is a generic map on web, but the map posted along the trails showed more trails than the map on...
