Instead of doing the Pinnacle Trail - which is done by most - I chose to take the Crowder's Trail to the Rocktop Trail, which follows a ridgeline across Crowder's Mountain. There is rock scrambling involved. The Rocktop trail goes to the summit of Tower Hill and then to the Crowder's Mountain Overlook. My only non-lazy friend and I took his dog out to the Kings Pinnacle trail at Crowders mountain today. Its a short trail, only 1.7 miles each way (my gps didnt get all the data), but I like it. Also, its only 30 minutes from Charlotte. This is only our track data for the hike back down the trail, as my GPS couldnt get a signal when we first got there.
Hiked the Pinnacle Trail to King's Pinnacle, then returned via the Turnback Trail to the Visitor's Center. Good way to burn off Thanksgiving Dinner!

Day hike at Crowders Mountain State Park. We started at visitor center on Crowders Trail then used Backside Trail to reach top of Crowders Mountain. Took Rocktop Trail back to visitor center. Pinnacle Trail to Kings Pinnacle then Turnback Trail back to visitor center.Not ideal weather for hiking but acceptable. Poor conditions for photography. Overcast, temperatures in the 60s

This is the hike from the main entrance to the pinnacle. This time I went onto the ridgeline trail. The trail decends to Pinnacle road. I turned back once I realized the the hike back up would be tough. This is a great trail, I ran into only two people.
Great 5 mile loop hike with some great rock features and views of Charlotte from the top of the Rocktop trail. You will see rock climbers on the rock face once you get to the top. Parking at the ranger station is free but parking goes fast on the weekends. These are dog friendly trails, but please bring them water too since there are no streams for them to cool off. Trails...

This is a great hike. Easy on the legs and heart. Once you hit the gravel Orange blaze, you go right. the hike up the gravel path to the steps that take you to the summit with get your heart rate to its max. There are about 300 steps to the top.
