The fourth hike for me, sixth overall for group training for Philmont in August.
Alisa / Ramses / Monte / Tim Photos: Alisa Found this hike in the 60 Hikes within 60 Miles of DFW. This was a last minute hike. We slept in a little bit, so we tried to rush out to beat the heat. We didn't exactly win. It got to be very warm on the trail on our way back. Lot's of trees, sand, and the beach was littered. The beach the book points you...

Plano, Texas, United States
Hiking | 4.0 miles (11.5 miles away)
Hiking | 4.0 miles (11.5 miles away)
Plano just opened up a park called Oak Point Nature Preserve sometime this summer. It seemed like the concrete trails would keep us out of any mud from this morning's rain; which was partially correct. It looked like it was going to rain, but it didn't. The park was empty when we got there. Usually, even on weekdays there are a few people in the parks around here. I'm figure it is...
Very urban trail. If you want to have an up-close view of airplanes landing, this would be a good place. Planes come in for landing at DFW airport right over the top of the lake.
If you are near the Plano area, then you should check this place out. There's plenty of good picnic places, a decent amount of "accessible" concrete walking path, and a good bit of standard "non-accessble" hiking paths. These paths work there way through several distinct wilderness areas. You will most definitely see some rabbits, maybe a coyote, or other small game.Don't miss the Lookout Tower at Sunset; which is also a good...
This trip was created at the Towne Lake Recreation Area / Wilson Creek Softball Complex located at 1405 Wilson Creek Parkway in McKinney, Texas. This approximately 1.2 mile trail contains 16 waypoints: park entrance sign, lake fountain, and 14 different tree species native to north Texas. Enjoy a nice walk around the lake in this beautiful City of McKinney park and investigate the trees identified along the journey!
I basically saw this park as I was driving by and decided to stop and give it a try. It was shockingly a nice little trail the be in the middle of Richardson, Texas and surrounded by roads and neighnorhoods. This trail consists of paved, gravel, and grass trails. You are basically tracing a creek that runs through town. At one end of the trail I discovered that at least part of...
