A gorgeous trail on Black Island. Black Island was slated for development in the 1960's. The canals through the Island were dredged during that period. In 1983 the state of Florida acquired the lands. The trail takes you through a maritime hammock of palms and other emerging plants. There is much wildlife on the island including wading birds and marsh rabbits. The trail is hard packed dirt with numerous trail markers along the way.Highly recommended!...

A beautiful walk along the beach at Lovers Key State Park. The shoreline is littered with an abundance of shells, many with their occupants still in residence. Dolphins and Manatees can be seen swimming in the water along with pelicans and other shore birds. We found numerous Sand Dollars, Fighting Conchs, Horseshoe Crabs and Sea Scallops.
A beautiful walk over 2 bridges takes you to the mid portion of the beach, left natural with no facilities. A courtesy tram (for the lame) is available to the south beach where a gazebo, restroom, and picnic area are located.
Estero State Preserve Park has Four Well -marked trails of varying lenghts from 1,6 to 4,4 miles which traverse typical Florida scrub with palmettos, pine trees, sand trails and salt flats (which becomes salt marches in summer). Wild life includes flowers, birds (eagles) and gopher tortoises. The salt flats were covered with animal tracks and scat. The short trail to Estero River rewarded us with river views and shade. ...
