Island In The Sky District, Canyonlands National Park, Utah, United States
False Kiva is a Class II archeological site located in alcove in Canyonlands National Park. It's also very known by the famous photograph by Wally Pacholka, showing the milky way in all it's glory. When you get there you'll be amazed by the silence of the alcove and the view ahead. You'll have a view on the Canyons and the Candlestick tower in the...

I hike to Druid Arch the afternoon after a snowstorm, which makes for a wet but beautiful outing.
Starts from our camp site.
Spent the day hiking with my family in this incredible rock wonderland. Part of the track was lost, but there's enough to get the picture.
We hike a big loop in the canyons that flow around Upheaval Dome.

Chilly winds prompt us to try this shorter hike, which is packed full of plenty of goodies for the length.

An easy, mostly loop, hike in the Needles area of Canyonlands National Park. The Needles are in the distance in several of the photos. Didn't see any bighorn sheep.
Spent the afternoon hiking in/out to the slot section of joint trail. Highlight of the trip was arriving at Chesler Park and hearing the dead silence. Beautiful sunny day in the 50s. perfect day
We walked the Big Spring Canyon Trail in the Needles area of the Canyonlands National Park, Utah.
A long-ish dayhike in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. Spectacular scenery!

Squaw Flat Trailhead to CP2 campsite. We started off somewhat early 8am) for this hike. Our backpacks were pretty heavy since we were carrying the necessary water for 2.5 days in the canyonlands. There is no reliable water source in the area so for 2.5 days we each carried 2 gallons of water. That's 16 pounds of just water. Our packs weighted roughly 40 lbs with all of our food, tent, sleeping bags,...
Another great loop after a night of snow! We realize these canyons are all so different, the hikes will never get repetitive.
One of the best hikes we have ever done...and we have done quite a few. This trail has it all.....slick rock hiking, great panorama views, and pictographs. While this is a 10 mile round trip hike, it is well worth the effort. Make sure you start off early to avoid the heat as later in the day it got quite toasty. There are two ladder to assist you with a large drop...
The best way to get to know the Canyonlands is to leave the road behind. This loop is "popular" according to the ranger, but we didn't see one other hiker on trail all day. Stunning views the entire way, and serious terrain.
I did this day trip after we backpacked to the SQ2 campsite. I dropped all me gear, setup camp, and took off for the Lost Canyon. My friends were too tired to join me, so I did this adventure solo.
The trail starts out having to climb up and into lost canyon. This gives you a spectacular view of lost canyon, and the Needles section of Canyonlands. From this...
A ten-mile round trip dayhike to an Indian ruin in Horse Canyon, in the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park. Tower Ruin is the largest of the ruins in Horse Canyon, and was probably occupied by a single family unit.
Simple trail out to see Mesa Arch and back.
