View ancient petroglyphs up close along the Snake River in Southwest Idaho.
This is an all day hike. If you decide to use a mountain bike, it becomes a half-day ride. Walk across the Swan Falls Dam. Once across the dam, turn left and head upriver on the singletrack trail. Turn right where a doubletrack joins the trail. You 'll head up a short steep and rocky hill. Turn right on the major doubletrack trail and then turn right...
Trips
A sweet hike in the Boise Foothills popular with joggers, hikers, mountain bikers. This loop has nice views of the valley and has running water in Hulls Gulch in the Spring.
Hike from Warms Springs Golf Course to Tablerock, quarry side.
Kind of a grey day, with slight mist at times. Decided to look for deer, but ended up playing in a small creek, pretending to have magical powers, and getting muddy.
Another short hike in the foothills above Boise.
Great trail, well maintained, flat, sandy.
The pleasant 1.3 mile hike starts at Veterans Park just off of State Street in Boise. The trail circles Boise Cascade Lake and as such is favored by water lovers. The lake is a popular spot for cooling off in the hot summers in Boise. The trail is paved on the Greenbelt side and undeveloped on the opposite bank, and provides shade for about half of its length. Veterans Park was originally...
Always nice without humidity
This is a very popular hike in the Boise area. It can be challenging with short periods of steep terrain. My average speed was slow because I did a lot of photography along the way.
Decided to go out for a dayhike and get some fresh air. We Spotted numerous deer and a coyote (can you spot the deer in photo 5?). The spring grass carpeting the hills made for beautiful scenery. Once the summer heat kicks in, I'm sure it will all turn brown. It was very windy along the ridge but there was still no need for a jacket. The clouds made for great photos and the...

After reading about a large concentration of petroglyphs along the Snake River a few miles below Swan Falls dam, I decided to take a hike and check them out.The temperature was about 45 degrees, but it was windy. Even so, there was a clear sky and no people on the trail. Looking across the river I could see numerous people camped along the bank and fishing. The trail is mostly a double track...
We have been watching this hawk nest for some time. Several days ago realized that the birds in the nest were the newborn chicks. The parents hunt the fields around the nest . The fields are home to various other animals including turkey vultures, coyote, deer, rabbit, and yellow-bellied marmots.
This is an easy 3.0 mile out-and-back hike on level, hard-packed dirt. The trail is for pedestrian use only and cyclists are required to dismount. The trail is well-shaded and provides ample opportunities for wildlife viewing. Wildlife you may encounter include; bald eagles, great blue herons, various ducks and maybe even a beaver. Other birds you might see include; yellow warblers, red-wing blackbirds and mourning doves. A pleasant hike for the casual...
#28 Polecat Gulch Finger Ridge Loop from the Boise Trail Guide by Steve Stuebner. I call this version the \"See everything at least once\". This is because I wanted to completely cover all the ground available on this trail in one sitting. Doing so means there is some back-tracking to where you cover ground twice. It was worth it though. After the initial Finger Ridge (Polecat) loop, I felt pretty good so...
