This hike was with my wife, daughters and nieces (ages 9, 11, 12 + 13). It was a hot day so it was a little slow. It's got a stretch in the beginning that is fairly steep and had us all sweating pretty well in the 90+ degree weather. We started from Route 9 near Bear Mtn Inn. Hike began with a short but steep climb along a river. We also Visited the remains of a mine. We had lunch at the top and enjoyed a panoramic view of the surrounding area.
This hike is very similar to a hike described on NYNJ Trail conference web site called "177E/Doodletown Bridal Path Loop from 9W". I may have changed a couple of things. The spring melt was in full force and there were recent torrential rains. So, it was wet and muddy and there were lots of cascades and some really roaring waterfalls. A day hike gone awry due to lack of maps, me going rogue on the Cat's Elbow and getting seperated from my group, and this app draining the hell out of my phone battery. But, it was a beautiful day and ended well :)For the record, we were in the woods for about 3 hours, the GPS stuff is spotty, so don't use it for yourself.
