This was a beautiful quick (4 mile/1.5 hrs) hike in the State Botanical Gardens near Athens, GA. I started at the beginning of the white trail, then stayed on the river by following the Orange trail, thereby creating a loop. The terrain is somewhat rugged, with a number of changes in elevation (+/- 600 ft).

I saw this network of hike/bike/horse trails just 20 miles from home and thought I would check it out, though I didn't expect much. It was better than expected and gave me a real workout while remaining easy and enjoyable. While the 5.5 mile route I took included hundreds of feet of elevation change, it was in smaller amounts up and down the ridges, so I could keep my pace pretty well....

A solo hike on the first weekend of November. Fall color is approaching the peak but there is still more to come I think. BTW, in the fourth picture, that's a huge hornet's nest right beside the trail. Just in case you were wondering :-)

The complete white trail at the Botanical gardens is a great easy trail. There are several curt-throughs that will allow you to shorten this hike, or you can combine it with the orange trail for a longer trip. The trails here are often busy with college students and other jogging and hiking. There is work ongoing along the part of the white trail where it follows the river. The trail is open, but...
This is the white/orange trail loop at the Georgia State Botanical Garden. The vertical is WAY off. This is a nice easy hike.
