A nice afternoon walk at Antelope Island State Park. This hike is best in early spring or late fall to avoid the clouds of flying insects and interesting aromas that come from the lake.
This is an excellent trail for spring wildlife viewing. The trail is well maintained and marked.
This is a great hike to the peak of the Great Salt Lake's largest Island. Antelope Island is a Utah State Park, so you will have to pay a park entrance fee to get to this hike. We finished in about 3 hours. I haven't any pictures to upload yet but I'll get them on.
Again ran out of battery on my phone on the way back :(. It doesn't take that long. We were waiting for some ice to melt and made many stops taking pictures
This was intended to be a nice spring hike. Unfortunately, we must have hit this trail at the absolute worst possible time. The Great Salt Lake and Antelope Island are known for a small biting gnat called "no-see-ums". I have never seen them so bad and so defiant to bug repellant. We ended up turning around half way and when I got back to the car, my arms and legs were COVERED...
From Buffalo Point Campground trail head it is a 12 mile round trip hike. It is a moderate hike with only a few uphill climbs. Starts out flat for a few miles and then gradually climbs up. You can walk the Split Rock Loop in two different directions. We stayed on the trail that went straight at the point of where you can turn right and head down through the valley. After...
As part of the 11 year overnighter that was spent at Bridger Bay at Antelope Island, we took a a quick jaunt to Buffalo Point. This hike is easy to moderate. Considering the heat and the incredible swarms of tiny, biting flies, it was less than perfect. We were only able to spend a few moments at the summit before we were chased away by the pests. The boys didn't care to...
Quick little hike with the kids. Up close with Buffalo, Antelope, Rabbit, lizards, and enjoyed lunch with a Coyote!
The maps from Antelope Island show this as a 15 mile round trip hike. This app tracked it at 19. My Garmin Rhino tracked it at 11.93 miles. Its a nice moderate hike. We saw Deer, Antelope and Bison. And of course the split rock.
